Q.  Pastor Brooks in New Jersey, asked: How does religious fundraising differ from other charitable fundraising?

Response by Valerie Samuel

Pastor Brooks, from all the research I have seen it appears that the philanthropic motives that underlie giving to nonprofits bear many similarities form one field to another and that includes religious fundraising too!  Donors want to help improve communities or partner with causes that make a difference and therefore, they target specific kinds of groups to make their investments in.

I would also add that these same donors much like your members inside your congregation crave both appreciation and information and really want to know how their gifts are being used.  I would suggest that you keep them informed and involved and this will improve your chances of receiving donations much more frequently above and beyond the regular tithes, pledges and offerings.
